Resources on Garment Care
A brief disclaimer
Here are some resources & suggestions on how to best care for various types of garment! Please note that it is the customer's full responsibility to properly care for the items they purchased and prolong their lifespans. What we offer here are no more than recommendations - at the end of the day, it is up to the customer to decide how they would care for their friends in their closet.
Please also note that the recommendations we offer here, including the washing tag on the garment, should not be viewed as a guarantee that if you follow these recommendations, the items you purchased will definitely stay in perfect conditions. Certain washers and dryers are inherently tougher on clothes - every time you put garment into a washer or dryer, you are running the risk of potentially damaging the items, even if you are very careful and use the most gentle settings.
Garment care is both a science and an art. While there can be general rules, it is a personal choice at the end of the day. Our meta-recommendation is to always do your own research, and find out what work best for you via trial and error.
General best practices
Before going into details about specific types of garment, here are some general recommendations that are broadly applicable:
1. Avoid excessive washing and drying. Only wash your clothes when you need to. Clothing items are almost guaranteed to age as a result of repeated washing and drying.
2. Store your clothes in a dry environment with a fair amount of air circulation. Otherwise, they can get moldy and smelly.
3. Thoroughly wash and dry your clothes, if you plan to put them away for a long period of time.
4. Use cold water and very gentle detergent when washing. Use low heat when drying.
5. Hand-wash and air dry fragile items. Avoid direct sunlight when drying.
How to care for corduroy
1. Wash inside out.
2. Use cold water and very gentle detergent when washing. Use low heat when drying (also inside out).
3. Wash separately or with items of similar colors. Corduroy fabrics are sometimes prone to color fading during washing.
4. Iron on the reverse side.
5. Hand-wash and air dry if needed or preferred.
How to care for linen
1. In contrast to cotton, linen fabrics don't "weaken" during each wash. Feel free to wash linen clothes more often to refresh them and soften the fabrics :)
2. Use warm or cold water when washing, and low heat when drying.
3. Wrinkles are part of what gives linen its character. There is no need to excessively iron the garment.
4. When ironing, do so while the fabric is still damp. Use a medium-hot iron on the steam setting. White linen is better ironed on both sides, while dark linen should be pressed only on the reverse side.
5. Store linen clothes in a cool and dry place. Linen fabrics are naturally insect-repellant.
6. While our linen products are all preshrunk, they may still slightly shrink during the first few washes, so it's crucial to use cold water if you want to minimize the shrinking.
How to care for cotton
The vast majority of our products are made of 100% cotton. Please follow the general best practices to care for cotton clothes. Cotton fabrics are more likely to weaken as a result of repeated washing and drying, so it's important to be more careful and gentle with garment made of 100% cotton. Hand-wash and air dry if the items are particularly delicate and fragile.
Last but not least
Have fun! All garments and accessories age just like humans. At the end of the day, nothing lasts forever, and it is the joy they bring us that matters :)
